MORE, a township and a parish in Clun district, Salop. The township lies on the river Onny, near the boundary with Wales, 2½ miles NNE of Bishops-Castle r. station. The parish contains also the townships of Linley and Moreswood; and its Post town, is Bishops Castle, Shropshire. Acres, 3,533. Real property, £2,653. Pop., 227. Houses, 40. The manor belongs to the Rev. T. F. More. There are ancient Norman shooting butts, and several ancient camps. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Hereford. Value, £270. Patron, the Rev. T. F. More. The church was recently rebuilt, and has a tower. There are an endowed school with £.5 a year, and charities £5.

A Topographical Dictionary of England 1848
MORE, a parish, in the union of Clun, hundred of Purslow, S. division of Salop, 3 miles (N. E. by N.) from Bishop’s-Castle, on the road to Shrewsbury; containing 246 inhabitants. It comprises 3534 acres, of which 943 are common or waste land; of the remainder, the arable and pasture are in about equal portions. The surface is undulated, and the scenery picturesque and well wooded: the river Onney flows through the parish. Good building-stone is obtained. The living is a discharged rectory, valued in the king’s books at ÂŁ8. 6. 2., and in the gift of R. B. More, Esq.: the tithes have been commuted for ÂŁ242, and the glebe contains 18½ acres, with a house. A school is endowed with ÂŁ5 per annum.
