STADHAMPTON, a parish in the district of Abingdon and county of Oxford; on the river Thame, 5 miles E by N of Culham r. station, and 6 N of Wallingford. It has a post-office under Wallingford. Acres, 620. Real property, £1,537. Pop., 329. Houses, 75. The living is a p. curacy annexed to Chiselhampton. The church is good; and there are a Baptist chapel and a free school. Dean Owen, chaplain to Cromwell, was a native.

STADHAMPTON (St. John the Baptist), a parish, in the union of Abingdon, hundred of Dorchester, county of Oxford, 5 miles (N.) from Bensington; containing 384 inhabitants, and comprising 609a. 1r. 27p. The living is a perpetual curacy, incorporated with that of Chislehampton. In the churchyard is a remarkably fine yew-tree. There is a place of worship for Particular Baptists. John Owen, D.D., the learned nonconformist, dean of Christ-Church, and vice-chancellor of the university of Oxford in the time of the Commonwealth, was born here; and Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, is supposed to have been also a native.

CHISELHAMPTON, a parish in the district of Abingdon and county of Oxford; on the river Thame, 5 miles ENE of Culham r. station, and 7½ SE of Oxford. Post town, Stadhampton, under Wallingford. Acres, 1, 210 Real property, £1, 446. Pop., 133. Houses, 26. The property is divided among a few. Chiselhampton House belonged once to the D’Oyleys, and belongs now to Peers, Esq. The long bridge of Chiselhampton, now much altered and widened, was defended by Hampden against Prince Rupert, on the morning of the fight of Chalgrove. The living is a vicarage, united with the vicarage of Stadhampton, in the diocese of Oxford. Value, £135. Patron, Rev. J. W. Peers. The church is tolerable.

CHISLEHAMPTON (St. Katherine), a parish, in the union of Abingdon, hundred of Dorchester, county of Oxford, 6 miles (N. by W.) from Bensington; containing 153 inhabitants. This parish, which is situated on the Thame, comprises 901a. 39p.: the surface is varied, rising into hills in some parts, and being in others level; the soil is clayey but fertile. Chislehampton Lodge is a handsome residence, in the grounds around which is one of the largest and finest elm-trees in the county. The living is a perpetual curacy, with that of Stadhampton; net income, £135; patron and impropriator, Charles Peers, Esq.
