UPTON-PYNE, a parish in St. Thomas district, Devon; on the North Devon railway, 3 miles N by W of Exeter. Post town, Exeter. Acres, 1,852. Real property, £3,779. Pop., 455. Houses, 98. The manor belonged anciently to the Pynes; and, with Pynes House, belongs now to Sir S. H. Northcote, Bart. Manganese was for some time worked, but is now exhausted. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Exeter. Value, £482. Patron, Sir S. H. Northcote, Bart. The church is ancient but good. There are a national school, and charities £7.
